Methodology
Identification
With your permission, cropped photos of both sides go to an AI model that reports only what it can see: series, date, mint mark, visible condition and photo quality. It never reports prices, grades, rarity or errors. A second, more careful model independently checks results that are uncertain, involve silver, or match dates with documented varieties. If the two disagree, we leave those fields blank for you to fill in.
Model confidence is a routing signal inside our system, not a probability, and we never display it. You always confirm the date and mint mark yourself before any value appears.
Value basis
| Number | How we get it |
|---|---|
| Face value | The denomination. Nominal legal-tender value, not a resale quote. |
| Standard silver content | Standard mass × silver fineness ÷ 31.1034768 grams per troy ounce. A worn or altered coin may differ. |
| Silver content estimate | Standard silver troy ounces × a licensed USD spot quote, with the provider and quote time shown. It excludes dealer premiums, fees and buyer spreads. We show it as current for up to 24 hours, mark it stale until 72 hours, and then hide it. |
| Market range | None at launch. We don’t have licensed, comparable sales data, so we don’t invent one. |
| Collection totals | Face total and silver-content total are kept separate and never added together. |
We don’t apply percentage bands or “typical” discounts. Face value and silver content measure different things; they are not a low and high estimate.
Facts and sources
Specifications and issue lists are transcribed from United States Mint records, with a locator and review date for each fact. Mintages appear only when we have verified a figure for coins carrying that date; otherwise the page says “Mintage not yet verified”.
Variety checklists are our original writing. They are reminders of what to look for, not detections, and a photo cannot confirm a variety.
Limits
Not financial advice. Sale proceeds depend on condition, authenticity, demand, fees and the buyer. If you suspect a valuable variety, independent authentication may be worth considering, though grading fees are not always economical for a given coin.
